We went swimming on Sunday and as usual Holly went and get changed with Kirsty and Lucie came with me. Me and Lucie went and found one of the family changing cubicles and as I closed the door, Lucie pointed at the fold-down baby changing table which had some drawings of elephants in a line.
“Look.”, she says, “A boy elephant and a girl elephant.”
I looked and there was indeed an elephant with tusks and one without tusks. I was impressed with her knowledge of Indian elephant anatomy but since she’s only three I thought I’d better test her just in case, so I asked “Yes, there is. Which one is the boy and which is the girl?”
Lucie pointed at the one with tusks and said “That’s the boy” and then to the other one “That’s the girl”.
At this point I was getting really impressed both with Lucie’s animal knowledge and also with the UK school system – I thought they started biology much later than three. I asked “How do you know that one is the girl?”.
Lucie said “She’s got eye lashes.”
